COMPLAINTS CHOIR is a performance art project of Helsinki husband and wife collaborators, TELLERVO KALLEINEN and OLIVER KOCHTA-KALLEINEN. For the last 7 years, the pair circled the globe founding Choirs made up of everyday people who simply want to air complaints in large public forums. Beyond that, the Kalleinens have encouraged nearly 100 DIY choirs on nearly every continent around the world. YouTube videos of the choir performances have registered more than a million views. In 2007, Smog Veil produced the first artist-created Choir in North America, garnering significant press attention including features in the Chicago Tribune, New York Times, and CBS Sunday Morning. The duo then went to Singapore and faced official police censorship. The incident in Singapore became the focus of a US State Department report on artist rights in Singapore. The documentary focuses on the Chicago and Singapore Choirs. The audio CDs collect up all the artist-created Choir songs plus songs from 20 DIY choirs. The documentary has traveled the fest circuit with command performances at HotDocs and the IndieMemphis Freedom Fest, among others. Beautifully packaged in a gatefold plastic-free digipak, the set includes a guide to forming a DIY Complaints Choir. Audio CDs contain the choir songs of: Birmingham (UK), Chicago, Copenhagen, St. Petersburg, Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg, Helsinki, Singapore, Tokyo, New York City, Usti Nad Labem (Czech Republic), Gabriola Island, Juneau, Melbourne, Philadelphia, Sointula, Tatte, Vancouver, Washington D.C., Columbus, Wolfenbuttel, Florence, Hong Kong, Jerusalem, Sundbyberg, Budapest, Aland, Memphis, and Wroclaw. Includes soundtrack music from: Paavoharju (courtesy, Fonal Records), Lamburgh Tony. Stitch and the Analog Girl.
