In this adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel set in 19th-century England, sisters Deborah and Matty Jenkyns (Eileen Atkins, Judi Dench) find the social strictures governing the town of Cranford ruptured by the arrival of a handsome London doctor. Many others soon figure in the dramatic local gossip, including an old flame of Matty's (Michael Gambon) who reappears unexpectedly. Simon Woods, Imelda Staunton co-star in the spellbinding miniseries "Cranford" (2007). Then, as the world outside 19th-century Cranford begins to rapidly evolve, Matty (Dench) takes some cheer in the return of her brother (Nicholas Le Provost) from India. Meanwhile, talk gets lively about the coming of a wealthy widower and his handsome, educated son (Tom Hiddleston). Staunton, Barbara Flynn co-star in "Cranford: Return to Cranford" (2009). 7 3/4 hrs. total on three discs. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English; "making of" documentary.
