For over a half-century, independent filmmaker Stan Brakhage has explored the universal themes of life, death, love, and the cosmos through more than 300 innovative shorts and features that experiment with the physical qualities of film, from scratching directly onto celluloid to running pasted-on moths' wings through an optical printer.
