Up All Night With Robert Downey, Sr. (Criterion Collection - Eclipse Series 33)
This collection of films by cinema satirist Robert Downey, Sr. begins with the writer/director's political spoof "Babo 73" (1964), which finds the U.S. president (Taylor Mead) conducting foreign relations on the beach. With James Greene, Richard Roat. Next, "Chafed Elbows" (1966) provokes offense of all kinds using still frames to chronicle a New Yorker's sordid breakdown. George Morgan, Elsie Downey star. Then, Downey, Sr. also stars in "No More Excuses" (1968), a faux documentary examining the Manhattan singles' scene. With Alan Abel, and Lawrence Wolf as President James A. Garfield. Finally, "Two Tons of Turquoise to Taos Tonight" (1975), a re-edited version of Downey's 1975 film "Moment by Moment," is his decidedly offbeat offering featuring wife Elsie in multiple roles. Leonard Buschel, Michael Sullivan co-star. Two-disc set also includes "Putney Swope." 5 hrs. total. Standard/Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English PCM mono; Subtitles: English (SDH).
