Orson Welles’ final completed fictional feature was this dark adaptation of an Isak Dinesen novel produced for French television. The director stars as a wealthy, cantankerous merchant living on the island of Macao in the late 19th century, whose fixation with a regional legend has fateful repercussions for a local courtesan (Jeanne Moreau).
