Emilio Gómez Muriel and a young Fred Zinnemann shared directing duties on "Redes" (1936), a documentary-feel dramatization of the struggles facing peasant fishermen on the Gulf of Mexico. South Korean helmer Kim Ki-young offered the original version of "The Housemaid" (1960), in which a bourgeois music teacher comes to regret bringing an unstable servant into his home. Turkish director Metin Erksan's "Dry Summer" (1964) follows a callous tobacco farmer out to cut off his neighbors' supply of needed water. Senegalese filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambéty's drama "Touki Bouki" (1973) depicts the struggles of two young lovers from Dakar who dream of a better life in Paris. Bengali director Ritwik Ghatak's mournful tale "A River Called Titas" (1973) limns the everyday lives of a fishing community in pre-Partition East Bengal. The sound and impact of the internationally popular Moroccan acoustic band Nass El Ghiwane is explored in Ahmed El Maânouni's musical documentary "Trances" (1981). 10 hrs. total on nine discs. Soundtrack: Spanish PCM mono, Korean PCM mono, Turkish PCM mono, Wolof PCM mono, Bengali PCM mono, Arabic PCM mono; Subtitles: English; interviews; more.
