This well-crafted early work from director Louis Malle is an evocative, satirical view on sex and seduction (as well as early-'50s France). The film chronicles the coming-of-age exploits of French adolescent Laurent Chevalier (Benoît Ferreux), whose heart murmur diagnosis causes him to spend more time with his mother (Lea Massari), leading to some unexpected sexual stirrings. Daniel Gélin, Michael Lonsdale, Ave Ninchi also star. 118 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English; theatrical trailer. In French with English subtitles.
