An Albanian family is torn apart after the patriarch of the clan─who delivers bread to earn a modest living─shoots and kills a neighbor angry over his using a shortcut to shuttle his cart through a patch of disputed property. The escalating blood feud leads his eldest children to take on leadership roles in the family, with the daughter taking over the bread business as her brother and uncle hide out inside the house.
