Cyrano de Bergerac is a 1950 American adventure film based on the 1897 French Alexandrin version drama. The film stars Jose Ferrer, who received the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Cyrano de Bergerac, Mala Powers plays Roxanne and William Prince portrays Christian de Neuvillette. Cyrano de Bergerac (Jose Ferrer) plays a swashbuckling swordsman and poet who believes he will never be loved because of his enormous nose. Loving the fair Roxanne (Mala Powers) from afar, Roxanne confides in Cyrano her love for Christian, (William Prince), who possesses none of the ability to express himself in matters of the heart. Cyrano acknowledges Christian's love for Roxanne and agrees to help him in his pursuit of the fair lady by providing Christian the words to woe Roxanne. Eventually Roxanne discovers the truth behind the lovely words used to win her heart, and she is reunited with a Cyrano who is now dying. Superb fencing and battle sequences make this film a 'must-see'. A rare gem of a film! (113 minutes - 1950 - Black & White - 4:3).
