Overview
With the sale of his Manhattan tabloid imminent within days, world-weary editor Ed Hutcheson (Humphrey Bogart) had little left on his agenda beyond clearing out his desk. When one of his staffers is brutally beaten on the order of a notorious racketeer (Martin Gabel), Hutcheson finds himself with one last deadline...to bring the thug’s criminal conduct to light. Richard Brooks’ long-demanded, noirish newspaper thriller co-stars Kim Hunter, Ethel Barrymore, Ed Begley, Warren Stevens, Jim Backus; look for James Dean as a copy boy.
87 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; audio commentary; theatrical trailers.
