Based on the novels by Andrea Camilleri, this Italian mystery series (called "Inspector Montalbano" in its home country) debuted in 1999. Luca Zingaretti stars as Salvo Montalbano, the head of the police department in the fictional Sicilian town of Vigàta, who tackles one baffling crime after another while confronting his own personal demons. Cesare Bocci, Peppino Mazotta, Angelo Russo also star.
When the latest in a string of muggings turns deadly, Montalbano must find the connection between the murder and a missing gynecologist, in "The Goldfinch and the Cat." The top cop finds a corpse in the water during a morning swim, in "The Turning Point." And, in "Equal Time," a series of homicides makes it look like a mob war is brewing, but Montalbano’s not so sure. 4 3/4 hrs. total on three discs. Standard; Soundtrack: Italian stereo; Subtitles: English; trailers; photo gallery. In Italian with English subtitles.
