The Love Bug (1969)
A Volkswagen named Herbie with a mind of his own helps new owner Jim Douglas (Dean Jones)--a down-and-out racecar driver--find success at the track. That restored prowess also helps Douglas in the relationship department after he becomes smitten with the pretty and tomboyish Carole (Michelle Lee). Exciting racing scenes, wholesome romance, and Buddy Hackett highlight this Disney favorite that spawned three sequels. With David Tomlinson, Joe Flynn. 108 min. C/Rtg: G
Herbie Rides Again (1975)
The Love Bug is back to save the day! In this charming sequel to the 1969 Disney adventure, Herbie is recruited to assist a hapless lawyer (Ken Berry) in helping a little old lady (Helen Hayes) keep her home when a land developer (Keenan Wynn) tries to send her packing in order to demolish her house and put up an office building. Might Herbie also play matchmaker between the lawyer and a pretty stewardess (Stefanie Powers)? With Huntz Hall, John McIntire. 88 min. C/Rtg: G
Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo (1977)
The free-wheeling Beetle Herbie returns for all-new mischief in Monaco. While owner Jim Douglas (Dean Jones) is participating in the Trans-France Race in Europe, Herbie’s fuel tank becomes the hiding place for a stolen diamond lifted from a museum by two crooks (Roy Kinnear, Bernard Fox). Julie Sommars, Don Knotts, and Eric Braeden also star in this souped-up laughfest. 105 min. C/Rtg: G
Herbie Goes Bananas (1980)
There’s full-throttle Disney family fun in South of the Border, as that lovable little car revs his engine to help his new owner (Stephen W. Burns) win the Brazil Grand Primeo. Along the way, they meet an assortment of oddball characters, played by Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, Joaquin Garay III, John Vernon, and Alex Rocco. With Charles Martin Smith and Elyssa Davalos. 102 min. C/Rtg: G
