Doctor Who: The Invisible Enemy / K-9 & Company: A Girl's Best Friend
(1977)
One of the most popular shows in British TV history, this long-running, shoestring-budgeted sci-fi saga followed the exploits of "the Doctor," a maverick scientist and adventurer who traversed space and time in the TARDIS, a high-tech craft disguised (well, stuck, actually) as a London police box. William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy starred as the various eccentric incarnations of the Doctor during the series's initial 1963-1989 run.
Infected by an alien virus, the Doctor's (Tom Baker) only hope for survival lies with Leela getting him to a medical station on Titan and sending mini-clones of the Doctor and herself inside the Time Lord's brain, in "The Invisible Enemy," which features the debut of robot dog K-9. And, a pilot for a spin-off series that never happened, "K-9 & Company: A Girl's Best Friend" features the mechanical mutt going to 20th-century Earth, where he joins former companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) in a dangerous adventure involving modern-day witches in a remote English village. 143 min. total on two discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English (SDH).
