Dodes'ka-den (Criterion Collection)

This affecting drama from Akira Kurosawa (his first film in color) tells the story of a group of people living in a Tokyo slum, from the mentally challenged boy who operates a fantasy trolley to the young woman who perseveres despite abusive treatment from her uncle. Life's complexities and uncertainties have overtaken them, but they manage to get by on illusion and imagination. Yoshitaka Zushi, Kin Sugai star. 144 min.
