Originally filmed in 1980-81, this off-the-wall mix of documentary, drama, and performance art follows a painter (underground artist Jean-Michel Basquiat) who wanders the New York streets selling his work to raise rent money. His odyssey through a porn-saturated Times Square and the city’s club scene leads to encounters with musicians, poets, and a bag lady/"fairy godmother."
