After his pregnant cancer specialist wife dies in an accident in Venezuela, Chicago doctor Joe Darrow (Kevin Costner) experiences a series of bizarre occurrences. Strange messages from their pet parrot, appearances by dragonflies--her favorite creatures--everywhere, and claims from dying children in the hospital where she worked that they've seen her convince Darrow she's trying to contact him.
