Pioneering documentarian Vertov's "The Man with the Movie Camera" (1929) uses the camera lens as the audience's "eye," embarking on a bizarre chronicle of Soviet life filled with trick photography and strange sights. The early effort "Kino-Eye" (1924) offered a look into a society ready to take on life after the Revolution. The Five Year Plan of the late '20s was the focus of Vertov's "Enthusiasm" (1931). "Three Songs About Lenin" (1934) offered a nation's reflections to mark the 10th anniversary of the Bolshevik leader's passing. 4 2/3 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: Russian; Subtitles: English, French; bonus short "Kino-Pravda #21" (1925). In Russian with English subtitles.
