With their 1880s-era outpost overrun during a Mahdist insurrection, it falls to rank-and-file military lifer Private Richard Baker (Anthony Quayle) and inexperienced superior Murchison (Derek Fowlds) to transport emir’s daughter Asua (Jenny Agutter) and her governess, Miss Margaret Woodville (Sylvia Syms), down the Nile to safety.
