During his heyday at LSU in the ‘50s, collegiate running back Gavin "the Grey Ghost" Gray (Dennis Quaid) had the world on a string, including an engagement to homecoming queen Babs Rogers (Jessica Lange). Over the course of an injury-plagued, middling pro career, and subsequent years coasting on past glories, he’ll search for purpose after the cheers have stopped.
