After the mysterious death of a horse jockey, mystery writer Paula Bradford (Jean Arthur) begs her ex-husband, Dr. Lawrence Bradford (William Powell), to examine the corpse. But because it was Paula's penchant for dragging him into her cases that drove them apart, the doctor is reluctant to get involved─that is, until a dead body appears on his doorstep.
