The Fabulous Dorseys is a 1947 fictionalized biography which tells the story of Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey from their boyhood in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania through their rise, breakup and personal reunion. The rise and fall of the Dorsey brothers is charted in this whimsical stroll down memory lane. From a father who insisted that the brothers learn music, to the highs and lows of the Dorsey brothers musical careers, the everlasting music they created is certain to entertain. The film is a musical with many comic overtones. The side plot focuses upon a romance between Jane (Janet Blair) and Bob (William Lundigan). Bob strives to improve himself, and rather than playing support music in the cinema, tries to compose a concerto. The Dorseys star as themselves and other actors include Janet Blair, William Lundigan, Sara Allgood and Arthur Shields. Cameo appearances include other musicians such as: Paul Whiteman, Charlie Barnet, Henry Busse, Bob Eberly, Helen OConnell and Art Tatum. The Jimmy Dorsey composition and theme song Contrasts is performed in the movie. Green Eyes, Tangerine, Ill Never Smile Again and I'm Getting Sentimental Over You are also featured in the movie. If you have a craving for great 1940s hits then this film is for you. Not to mention the immortal songs from the fabulous Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey.
