Anthony Hopkins delivers another sterling performance in this twist-filled yarn. The conviction of engineer Ted Crawford (Hopkins) for the attempted murder of his wife (Embeth Davidtz) seems certain after Crawford gives himself up and pushes for a quick trial. The "open and shut" case is handed to a brash deputy D.A. (Ryan Gosling) who quickly discovers that the wily defendant has a plan to escape a guilty verdict.
