With a guitar string and a swayback horse the only clues to a gold mine owner's murder, "The Sagebrush Troubadour" (1935) Gene Autry and sidekick Smiley Burnette have their work cut out for them, and it doesn't get any easier when the victim's granddaughter arrives on the scene. In "Ride, Ranger, Ride" (1936), Texas Ranger Autry does some scouting work for the Army and helps them get an ammunition shipment past some renegade Comanche. Co-stars Burnette, Monte Blue, and Chief Thundercloud. When a no-goodnik steals cattle and blames innocent turpentiners, the duped ranchers burn down their trees. Enter Gene─who sings, lassos, gets framed for murder, and corrals the bad guys as the "Yodelin' Kid from Pine Ridge" (1937). With Burnette and Charles Middleton in the roe of Gene Autry, Sr.! When a spoiled dudette inherits a ranch, foreman Autry tries to keep things in order. After learning that his boss is marrying an unscrupulous gouger who plans on firing him, Gene enlists the help of Smiley to stop the varmint's plan, in "Gold Mine in the Sky" (1938). 6 2/3 hrs. total on two discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English.
