Let's Do It Again (1953)
This charming musical remake of the 1937 screwball romance "The Awful Truth" finds a composer’s wife (Jane Wyman) itching to teach her unfaithful husband (Ray Milland) a thing or two about jealousy. Embarking upon a plan to fake an affair to stoke her spouse’s outrage, she finds herself surprisingly pursued for real by an Alaskan millionaire (Aldo Ray). Valerie Bettis, Leon Ames co-star. Songs include "Anyone but You," "These Are the Things I Remember," and the title tune. 94 min. C/Rtg: NR
Three For The Show (1955)
The Somerset Maugham play "Too Many Husbands" gets a musical revamping, with Betty Grable starring as performer and war widow Julie Stewart, who marries Vernon (Gower Champion), the songwriting partner of her late spouse, Marty (Jack Lemmon)--then is shocked when Marty shows up alive and well. Marge Champion co-stars; songs include "I’ve Got a Crush on You," "Someone to Watch Over Me," and the title tune. Myron McCormick co-stars. 89 min. C/Rtg: NR
Rock Around The Clock (1956)
A frustrated big band promoter (Johnny Johnston) becomes the manager for Bill Haley and His Comets and proceeds to introduce them--and rock and roll music--to the world. With Alan Freed, Lisa Gaye, Alix Talton, and performances by The Platters, The Ernie Freeman Combo, and Freddie Bell and His Bellboys. Songs include "See You Later Alligator," "Only You (And You Alone)," "The Great Pretender," and the title tune. 77 min. BW/Rtg: NR
Hot Blood (1956)
Jane Russell shakes her tambourines and drives Cornel Wilde in director Nicholas Ray’s passionate story of Gypsy couple Annie Caldash (Russell) and Stephano Torino (Wilde), tricked into marrying one another in an attempt to tame Stephano’s hot-blooded ways. Their union--with Annie willing to try to make things work, while Stephano objects--becomes tempestuous in the extreme. Sizzling musical drama co-stars Luther Adler, Nina Koshetz. 85 min. C/Rtg: NR
