The Golden Madonna (1949)
Shortly after inheriting an Italian estate, British ex-schoolteacher Patricia Chandler (Phyllis Calvert) disposes of a painting of the Madonna that the local villagers believe brings them luck and protection. Now, Patricia must embark on a mission to find the painting and retrieve it, eventually forced to "liberate" it from the hands of a collector. Long-thought to be lost, this British drama also stars Michael Rennie, Tullio Carminati, David Greene. 88 min. BW/Rtg: NR
Wings Of The Morning (1937)
The first British film shot in Technicolor also offers Henry Fonda in one of his first starring roles. Fonda plays Kerry Gilfallen, a Canadian horse trainer who journeys to England to take part in the Epsom Downs Derby. There, he falls for a Gypsy beauty (Annabella), who plans to compete incognito in the race. With Leslie Banks, Irene Vanbrugh, and famed singer John McCormack. 87 min. C/Rtg: NR
