The 1942 assassination in Prague of Nazi security head General Reinhard Heydrich, "the man with the iron heart," inspired director/co-writer Fritz Lang to create this fictional account of the incident. Brian Donlevy plays the assassin, a Czech freedom fighter, who, while hiding out in the home of a university professor (Walter Brennan), must decide whether to give himself up when the Gestapo begins rounding up civilians.
