Unhappily wed socialite Vera (Ann Harding) is drawn into a romance with a handsome stranger (Lawford Davidson), but breaks off the affair and returns to her husband, only to discover that her "lover" is a professional blackmailer. When she accidentally shoots and kills the cad and an innocent man is accused of the crime, Vera must decide whether to confess her crime and her indiscretion.
