On vacation in India, Australian Ruth Barron (Kate Winslet) winds up joining the followers of a Hindu guru. Her panic-stricken family tricks Ruth into returning home so that cult expert PJ Waters (Harvey Keitel) can deprogram her, but their battle of wills takes a bizarre sexual turn (and believe us, his wandering the desert in a dress and lipstick is rather bizarre!), in this quirky, satirical comedy/drama from director Jane Campion.
