In 2018, veteran Walter Cruz (Stephan James) checked into Homecoming--a contractor-run facility aiding servicemen in returning to civilian life--and reported to caseworker Heidi Bergman (Julia Roberts). In 2022, DOD auditor Thomas Carrasco (Shea Whigham) looked into the Cruz case...and discovered that Bergman, now a waitress, had only fragmented memories of her recent past.
