Set in the Old West of 1865 and loosely based on the 1962 film, this 1977-79 series starred James Arness as hardy frontiersman Zeb Macahan, who becomes leader of his family after his sister-in-law (Eva Marie Saint) is widowed and her eldest son (Bruce Boxleitner) deserts the Union army. Fighting to maintain their countryside home, the Macahans also face the possibility of conflict with neighboring Indians. Kathryn Holcomb, Jack Elam co-star; narrated by William Conrad.
