Perhaps more noted for its behind-the-scenes saga than the stir it created on the screen, director Otto Preminger's scorching drama set in the 1940s tells the story of bigoted Georgia landgrabber Henry Warren (Michael Caine) who tries to force the sale of two plots of land to him by his cousin and a black sharecropper.
