Powerful drama focuses on James Lake (Raymond St. Jacques), an African-American man who escapes from prison after he's convicted of crimes he didn't commit. Intending to prove his innocence, he instead falls victim to a blackmail scheme orchestrated by the wealthy Leslie Whitlock (Kevin McCarthy), who wants Lake to murder his wife (Dana Wynter) or else get turned in to the cops.
