William Christie conducts Les Arts Florissants in this production of Monteverdi's opera, recorded live at the Teatro Real, Madrid in April 2009. Again the successful team with Christie's Les Arts Florissants (who just celebrated the 30th year of its existence) and Pier Luigi Pizzi to work with the second opera of the new Monteverdi trilogy, which produces the Madrid Teatro Real, along with La Fenice. It is the first Spanish-language performance and recording of the opera, which (next to the "Orfeo") played a very important role in the history of the genre.
