Susan Hayward offered up one of her most searing performances in this unflinching biopic taken from the memoir of singer/actress Lillian Roth, who conquered both Broadway and Hollywood at a young age, but who veered into alcoholism because of heartbreak and the pressure from her domineering stage mother (Jo Van Fleet).
