When the Trappist monastery where he’s spent his life gets threatened with shutdown, Brother Ambrose (Marty Feldman, who directed and co-wrote) ventures into the outside world to raise the needed funds. His journey takes him to Hollywood Boulevard, where he encounters some very different notions of salvation from a hustling street preacher (Peter Boyle) and a megalomaniacal televangelist (Andy Kaufman).
