Invitation

Dorothy McGuire gives an emotional performance as Ellen Bowker, a sickly woman with a critical heart condition who believes that she's destined to spend her life alone. When her father learns that she has a deep affection for Dan Pierce (Van Johnson), he pays Pierce to marry Ellen, much to the dismay of Ellen's rival (Ruth Roman). The troubling secret is eventually revealed to Ellen, but everything may not be as it seems. Louis Calhern co-stars in this M-G-M melodrama. 84 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
