In 1947, Hokkaido herring fisherman Kyubei (Isao Yamagata) was already girding for a tough season when his operations were threatened by one-eyed, embittered ex-colleague Jakoman (Tetsurō Tamba), on a campaign to terrorize Kyubei's migrant hires. The scales would tip with the unexpected arrival of Kyubei's thought-drowned son Tetsu (Ken Takakura), ready to take the fight down to Jakoman's level. Kinji Fukasaku's intense drama co-stars Yōko Minamida. 100 min. Widescreen; Sountrack: Japanese Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles; English; audio commentary; featurette; image gallery. In Japanese with English subtitles.
