Dr. No (1962)
The enduring film series featuring Ian Fleming’s suave British secret agent kicks off with this exciting spy thriller. With Jack Lord, Bernard Lee. 110 min. C/Rtg: PG
From Russia With Love (1963)
Sean Connery’s personal favorite of his Bond films is a globe-hopping thriller that finds 007 squaring off against Soviet spies and SPECTRE agents as he undertakes a mission to get his hands on a valuable decoding device called a Lektor. Robert Shaw as SPECTRE assassin Red Grant, Lotte Lenya as blade-booted Rosa Klebb, and a brutal fight aboard the Orient Express are among the highlights. Daniela Bianchi also stars. 111 min. C/Rtg: PG
Goldfinger (1964)
Often hailed as the quintessential Bond film, this action-packed outing finds 007 (Sean Connery) trying to foil a plot by the nefarious Auric Goldfinger (Gert Frobe) to contaminate the gold in Fort Knox, making his own stash even more valuable. Honor Blackman co-stars as the beautiful Pussy Galore, and Harold Sakata is Goldfinger’s deadly, hat-throwing henchman, Oddjob. With Shirley Eaton, Tania Mallet. The John Barry score includes the title tune, performed by Shirley Bassey. 110 min. C/Rtg: PG
Thunderball (1965)
It’s James Bond (Sean Connery) versus SPECTRE when evil agent Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi) holds the world hostage with a pair of stolen nuclear warheads, threatening to destroy a major city in either the US or the UK if his demands aren’t met. Bond heads off to the Bahamas where his mission to stop Largo culminates in a thrilling underwater adventure. Claudine Anger, Luciana Paluzzi, Rik Van Nutter also star. 125 min. C/Rtg: PG
You Only Live Twice (1967)
"Welcome to Japan, Mr. Bond." Ian Fleming's MI6 Agent 007, played by Sean Connery, is off to the Orient. His mission: Smash the evil SPECTRE organization, headed by Blofeld (Donald Pleasence), who plots to incite the world’s major powers into war against each other. With Akiko Wakabayashi, Mie Hama, Tetsuro Tamba, Teru Shimada, Karin Dor, Lois Maxwell, and Bernard Lee; directed by Lewis Gilbert and scripted by author Roald Dahl. 117 min. C/Rtg: PG
Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
Sean Connery intended to make this, his sixth appearance as James Bond, his last in this 007th big-screen adventure of Ian Fleming’s suave superspy. Here, Bond is on the Case, Tiffany Case (Jill St. John)--as he sets out for Las Vegas to revenge himself on criminal mastermind Blofeld (Charles Gray) and fold up his diamond-powered extortion scheme. With Lana Wood, Bernard Lee. 120 min. C/Rtg: PG
