After moving to the small town of Arcadia with her family, average teenager Joan (Amber Tamblyn) begins meeting strangers claiming to be God who give her tasks to accomplish. As she attempts to sort out her ambiguous feelings about faith, Joan must also contend with the pressures of growing up while living with her kindly police detective father Will (Joe Mantegna), loving mother Helen (Mary Steenburgen), geeky younger sibling Luke (Michael Welch), and wheelchair-bound older brother Kevin (Jason Ritter).
