Raised on a Nova Scotia farm by a cold, indifferent father (Charles Bickford), hearing-impaired Belinda (Oscar-winning Jane Wyman) was destined for life in isolation until a compassionate local doctor (Lew Ayres) taught her to communicate by signing. However, the emergent young woman also attracts the attention of a brutish local (Stephen McNally), setting the stage for tragedy and twists. Remarkable rendition of the Elmer Harris play co-stars Agnes Moorehead, Jan Sterling. 102 min. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital mono, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, Spanish, French; bonus short "The Little Archer" (1948); theatrical trailer.
