A sobering look at the birth of the modern state of Israel, director Amos Gitai's drama follows a boatload of Jewish refugees from Europe who, shortly after arriving in Palestine in early 1948, find themselves in the middle of the war for Israeli independence. Far from the typical cinematic wartime heroics, however, Gitai offers personal and prophetic stories from both sides of the ongoing conflict. Andrei Kashkar, Helena Yaralova, Yussef Abu Warda star. 100 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: Hebrew; Subtitles: English; featurette; filmography; photo gallery; theatrical trailers. In Hebrew with English subtitles.
