In 13th-century Mongolia, a general (Le Geng) serving Genghis Khan is dispatched to bring Daoist monk Qiu Chuji (Youliang Zhao) back to meet the legendary conqueror. During the long and dangerous journey, the monk confronts the general over his military decisions, threatening to abandon the meeting should his requests not be honored by his escort.
