During the course of the Mexican Revolution, country girl Lázara (Silvia Pinal) had barely taken her wedding vows with Juan (Jaime Fernández) when he was conscripted into the federal army. Electing to follow his troop rather than leave him, she saw him fall in combat to Villa's forces--and she took up with Villista general Nicolás (Narciso Busquets).
