The Last Laugh

F.W. Murnau’s classic, innovative German silent film tells the moving story an elderly hotel doorman (Emil Jannings) who takes great pride in his work, only to suffer a tremendous personal shame when he’s demoted to washroom attendant because of his age. With only the night watchman (Georg John) showing him any respect, the protagonist hides his new position from friends and family, but receives an unexpected surprise that will change his fortune.
