When small-town newspaper editor Kenesaw H. Clark (Will Rogers) makes a show of faith in a young ex-con (Richard Cromwell) by giving him a staff job, a wealthy, influential, and outraged banker (George Barbier) sets out to shut down the paper. Clark fights back by starting his own independent publication, and backing a local layabout (Slim Summerville) to run against the financier for school board president.
