Manhattan, 1939: A Jewish cop (Milton Berle) is less than thrilled to have to report to the German consulate and provide security for a pompous, pro-Nazi ambassador (Otto Preminger, who directed). When the disagreeable diplomat turns up dead, and suspicion turns toward his in-name-only wife (Joan Bennett), Berle sets out to prove her innocence. Adaptation of the Clare Booth Luce play (which Preminger also directed on Broadway) co-stars Carl Esmond. 74 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
