A Perilous Journey (1953)
Though she sailed to California as a barter bride, Francie Landreaux (Vera Ralston) was actually spoken for--by a no-good husband (Leif Erickson) who'd run off to Panama, and she was determined to track him down. Turns out the mister also sparked a blood feud between Texas gambler Shard Benton (Scott Brady) and Sacramento saloon owner Monty Breed (David Brian), and all three men would ultimately wrangle over Francie's fate. Charles Winninger, Veda Ann Borg, Hope Emerson also star. 90 min. BW/Rtg: NR
Abandon Ship (Seven Days From Now) (1957)
After an American luxury liner struck a derelict mine in the Atlantic, 27 survivors converged on a single lifeboat meant to hold nine. With the African coast 1500 miles away and the odds of survival diminishing daily, ranking officer Alec Holmes (Tyrone Power) faced harrowing decisions over the fates of his charges in this fact-inspired ensemble adventure; Mai Zetterling, Lloyd Nolan, Stephen Boyd, Moira Lister, Finlay Currie also star. AKA: "Seven Days from Now," "Seven Waves Away." 100 min. BW/Rtg: NR
The Buccaneer (1958)
Swashbuckling action saga is set during the War of 1812, as General Andrew Jackson (Charlton Heston) enlists the aid of pirate Jean Lafitte (Yul Brynner) in stopping the British navy. With Claire Bloom, Charles Boyer, Inger Stevens. Anthony Quinn stepped in for ailing father-in-law Cecil B. DeMille to direct this remake of DeMille’s 1930s historical drama. 121 min. C/Rtg: NR
