First, in "Moulin Rouge" (1952), the colorful, tragic story of painter Toulouse-Lautrec and the residents of Paris' notorious Montmartre district whom he immortalized on canvas is masterfully told by director John Huston. Jose Ferrer stars as the deformed artist, with Zsa Zsa Gabor, Colette Marchand, and Suzanne Flon as the women who filled his art and his life. Then, in "Moulin Rouge" (2001), Ewan McGregor is an impoverished author whose new play draws the attention of courtesan/would-be actress Nicole Kidman. The two begin a romance that is threatened by her involvement with the wealthy aristocrat (Richard Roxburgh) backing McGregor. Baz Luhrmann's dazzling musical set in the legendary 1900s Parisian nightclub co-stars Jim Broadbent, John Leguizamo. 4 hrs. total. Standard/Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital mono, Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: English, Spanish, French; audio commentary by Luhrmann, others; theatrical trailer.
