Young Charlie (Natalie Coughlin) resented much about her upbringing by single mother Marie (Natascha McElhone) through the absence of her wealthy father, and it didn’t help that her dad solely responded to Marie’s diagnosis with breast cancer by hiring the enigmatic Henry Joseph Church (Eddie Murphy) as family cook and caretaker. As she grew into a young woman (Britt Robertson), however, she found his giving nature and sage counsel would change the course of her life.
