David Cronenberg directed this creepy, darkly funny adaptation of the writings of William S. Burroughs. Bill Lee (Peter Weller) is an exterminator whose exposure to insecticide causes him to hallucinate. After accidentally shooting his wife Joan (Judy Davis), Lee travels to a strange city in North Africa where he encounters a typewriter that is also a talking bug, a doppleganger of Joan, and other oddities, while writing "reports" under the impression he’s on some sort of secret mission.
